Plain-language summary
- No ads, no purchases, no subscriptions. Their First Conversations is completely free, and every scene is open.
- No accounts or sign-in. The app never asks for names, email addresses, birthdays, profiles, or passwords. It never asks for, says, or stores a child’s name.
- No analytics, tracking, advertising ID, attribution, crash reporting, or cloud saving.
- No child activity is collected or sent. The browser version downloads app files from our website, which involves ordinary web requests.
- No camera, microphone, photos, contacts, or location. The Android store build does not even request internet access.
- Two settings are saved on the device: the language (English, Spanish or Korean) and the Little / Big Kid mode. Nothing about what your child listened to is saved.
- Conversations play offline after installation on mobile. In a browser, the ones you have played stay available offline. Links that leave the app sit behind a parent gate.
- Support emails contain only what you choose to write.
1. Who we are

2. Information the App handles
Information collected automatically
The App does not collect or send usage events, device identifiers, diagnostics, or child activity. When you open the browser version, your browser requests the page, images, and audio from our website. Those ordinary requests may include your IP address and browser information needed to deliver the files. Our hosting provider processes those requests to serve the website. The mobile app makes no such requests while playing.
The App has no accounts, analytics, advertising, attribution, crash reporting, cloud database, cloud sync, purchases, or push notifications.
Information stored on the device
The App keeps two settings on your device so it reopens the way you left it: the chosen language and whether Little or Big Kid scripts play. These are preferences, not a record of your child’s activity. The App saves no progress, scores, marks, names, or profiles. The browser version can cache its pictures, audio, and code on your device so conversations play offline; this is not a record of what your child did. Uninstalling the App (or clearing the browser’s site data) removes both settings.
Permissions
The App never asks for the camera, microphone, photos, contacts, location, health information, or advertising identifier. It plays its built-in recordings through the device speaker and never records.
3. Links for grown-ups
In the iPhone, iPad, and Android apps, a two-second parent gate protects every link that leaves the App. Behind it, an adult can open the official store listing for Their First Words, this website, and the support and privacy pages. The home screen shows the words “From the makers of Their First Words” as plain text; a tap on it does nothing and opens nothing.
These links carry no advertising identifier, analytics parameter, referral code, or affiliate code. Once a link opens, the website or store you visit handles information under its own privacy policy.
4. Support emails
If you email us, we receive only what you choose to send, such as your email address, message, and any attachments. The App attaches nothing automatically.
We use support emails to answer your request, troubleshoot, keep the service safe, and meet legal obligations. Please leave out your child’s personal information.
5. Sharing, selling, and retention
We never sell personal information. Child activity never leaves the device. We use no advertising networks, analytics providers, attribution providers, data brokers, or session-replay services. Our hosting provider delivers the browser app files as described above.
Your support email is handled by the email providers that deliver and store it. We keep it only as long as we need to answer your request, keep a reasonable support record, keep the service safe, or meet legal requirements.
6. App-store statistics
Apple and Google give developers aggregated store figures, such as total downloads and crash counts. The App adds no tracking of its own, and we never use these figures to identify a child or family.
7. Children’s privacy
Their First Conversations is made for young children and the grown-ups learning a language with them, with support and outside links intended for adults. The App collects no child activity or information entered by children. Scenes ask for no personal details and contain no external links. Where a conversation would naturally include a name or age, the recording says the opening words and pauses for the child; the App never asks for, says, or stores a child’s name.
Ordinary requests to deliver the browser app are described in Section 2.
8. Your choices and rights
There is no account, cloud profile, or saved activity to delete or export. Uninstalling removes the App, its content, and its two settings from the device. You can clear the browser’s saved site data to remove its offline copy.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights over personal information you sent us in a support email. Contact privacy@theirfirstwords.org, and we will confirm the request concerns your own message.
9. Security and international users
Child activity stays on the device. Browser file requests are processed by our hosting provider. If you email support from outside the United States, your message may be processed in the United States or wherever the email services involved operate.
10. Changes to this policy
We will update this policy when the App or the law changes, and we will update the “Last updated” date above. If a change affects how information is handled in a meaningful way, we will give appropriate notice and ask for consent when the law requires it.
