Postcards from the bus

Twenty postcards, one for each place Their First Bus visits. Each has the painted street across the top, the place’s name, and what Hope, the app’s voice, says when the bus arrives. Below is room for a drawing or a few words. Your child needs no reading: you read the card, and they do the finding, the saying, and the scribbling.

How to use it

  1. Print the five sheets on Letter or A4 paper. Color is best, but the names and lines still work in black and white.
  2. Cut along the dashed lines. A grown-up does the cutting; keep the twenty cards together in an envelope or a box.
  3. After a ride, pick the place the bus went today. Lay out three or four cards and let your child find the street they just saw.
  4. Say the name together, the way Hope does: “Paris. France.” Then your child draws on the lines, or tells you a few words to write down.
  5. Post it on the fridge, or tuck it in an envelope for a grandparent. The bus visits two places a day, so the pile grows a little each time.
