Their First Words in ChatGPT

Their First Words is a free plugin for ChatGPT. It helps parents, caregivers and early-years educators get an activity ready for a young child: find picture word cards and everyday phrases in up to three of eight languages, hear each one spoken, gather them into a set and print it.

It is listed in the ChatGPT plugin directory. There is no account and no sign-in, and the plugin keeps no profiles.

Add it to ChatGPT

  1. Open Their First Words in the ChatGPT plugin directory and add it to your ChatGPT. You can also open Plugins in the ChatGPT sidebar and search for Their First Words.
  2. Start a new chat and ask for picture cards, or type @ and pick Their First Words.

Three things to try

  • Make me a printable of six mealtime picture word cards in Spanish and English for a two-year-old.
  • Find five bedtime phrases in Korean and English that I can say with my toddler.
  • Make a printable of twelve animal word cards for my preschool class.

Good to know

  • It is for adults preparing activities. It is not a children’s app; you choose the cards here, then use them with your child or your class.
  • A search shows up to 24 cards, a printable holds up to 40, and a print link works for 24 hours.
  • Pictures and recordings are the same ones in the Their First Words app, with all 1,000+ words and 500+ phrases included here at no cost. The plugin and the app are separate: using one does not require or unlock the other.
  • Beyond words and phrases, it also finds phonics words, artworks with their credit lines, place stories in 11 languages, everyday conversation lines, and number and letter cards.
  • Questions? See the plugin’s support page, privacy notice and terms, or email support@theirfirstwords.org.

Without the directory

If your ChatGPT plan or workspace does not offer the plugin directory, you can add the server yourself in about a minute, where custom servers are allowed:

  1. In ChatGPT, open Plugins in the sidebar, click Add at the top right, and choose Add custom MCP server.
  2. Name it Their First Words. The description is optional; Picture cards and phrases for young children works.
  3. Under Connection, keep Server URL and paste this address:
    https://plugin.theirfirstwords.org/mcp
  4. Under Authentication, choose No authentication. The plugin is public and read-only.
  5. ChatGPT shows the notice it shows for every server added this way. Tick I understand and want to continue.
  6. Click Create as a plugin, then start a new chat, type @, and pick Their First Words.
