How the phrases are chosen
Mostly things a child says.
Of the 526 phrases, 342 are the child’s lines, 135 are the grown-up’s, 35 belong to a playmate and 14 to a narrator. A phrase library that only taught parents to give instructions would be a library of instructions; this one hands the child the sentence, illustrated, so the picture carries the meaning before the grammar does.
Phrases are not split by stage: a two-word request and a short sentence sit side by side, and you pick what fits. Each one agrees with the child in its picture — in the languages where that matters, the card is written card by card. Start with the words if your child is still naming; come here once naming is no longer enough.
