Privacy Notice for the Their First Words plugin

This notice explains how the Their First Words plugin for ChatGPT, provided by Their First Words LLC, handles information. The plugin lets a parent, caregiver or educator search the Their First Words library of picture cards, phrases, phonics words, artworks, place stories, conversation lines and number and letter cards inside ChatGPT, play their recordings, gather cards into a set and open a printable page. It is separate from the Their First Words app Privacy Policy and the Website Privacy Notice.

1. The short version

  • The plugin has no account, no sign-in and no profiles. It keeps nothing about you or a child.
  • It is for adults preparing activities. It does not ask for, and is not designed to receive, a child’s name, age or other details.
  • It does not use analytics, advertising or behavioral tracking, and it sells nothing.
  • Nothing you make in it is stored on our side: a printable page is re-created from the link each time it is opened, and the link stops working after 24 hours.

2. What reaches our server

When you use the plugin, ChatGPT sends our server the request it needs answered: the search words or filters you chose (for example a category, an age range or the languages to show), the cards you put in a set, a title for a printable, and the technical details of the connection. ChatGPT may also include an anonymized identifier for rate limiting. We use that identifier only to limit how many requests one caller can make in a minute; it is hashed before it is held in memory and is never written to disk or logs.

When you play a recording, show a picture or open a printable page, your browser or the ChatGPT app fetches that file from our server through a short-lived signed link. The link carries only the file’s name and an expiry time.

3. What we keep, and for how long

Our server keeps no record of what you searched, which cards you chose or what you printed. Its own logs hold the name of the tool that was called, how long it took and whether it succeeded, and for picture, recording and printable requests the route and the status code. They do not hold your IP address, device information, search text or any identifier.

The server runs on Google Cloud Run. As the hosting provider, Google processes the network details of each request (IP address, time, user agent) to deliver and secure the service; we have configured the service’s request logs to leave out IP addresses and user agents. Rate-limiting counters live in the server’s memory only and are discarded within minutes.

4. ChatGPT

ChatGPT is operated by OpenAI, not by us. What you type in a conversation, what the plugin returns and anything ChatGPT keeps about the conversation are governed by OpenAI’s Privacy Policy and your ChatGPT settings. We do not receive your ChatGPT account details, your name or your email address.

Some answers include a link to a guide, printable or FAQ on theirfirstwords.org, or to the page that lists our apps. Following a link opens this website, which is covered by the Website Privacy Notice. A printable page is served by the plugin’s own server and keeps nothing about who opened it.

6. Children

The plugin is made for adults getting an activity ready for a young child. It is not directed at children, it does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13, and it asks for nothing about a child. If you believe a child has given us personal information, email privacy@theirfirstwords.org and we will delete it.

7. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to know, access, correct, delete, restrict, object to, or receive a portable copy of personal information. Because the plugin stores nothing about you, there is usually nothing for us to retrieve or delete; we will confirm that when you ask. We do not sell personal information.

To ask a privacy question or exercise a right, email privacy@theirfirstwords.org. We may need to verify a request before acting on it. You may also complain to your local data protection authority.

8. Changes

If this notice changes materially, we will update the effective date.

November 2, 2026: the plugin was renamed Their First Words. What it does and how it handles information did not change; this notice was first published on October 21, 2026.
