Their First Puzzles

For grown-ups

Questions, answered.

Their First Puzzles is a calm animal puzzle app for toddlers and young preschoolers. Here are the practical answers parents ask before their child plays.

Getting started

Is Their First Puzzles really free?

Yes. All five worlds and every puzzle are open from the first launch. There are no in-app purchases, subscriptions, or paid unlocks.

Are there ads?

No. There are no ads in Their First Puzzles. The app also has no purchase prompts.

Who is it for, and where can we play?

It is designed for toddlers and young preschoolers beginning to tap, drag, match, build, and sort. It is available from the Apple App Store for iPhone and iPad and from Google Play for Android. Check the relevant store listing for your device’s current compatibility requirements.

Does it work without Wi-Fi?

Yes. Every world and sound is built into the app, so your child can play without Wi-Fi or mobile data after installing it.

How children play

What does my child actually do?

Your child can discover animals tucked into the scenery, bring them home by matching them to shapes or grown-ups, build animals from two or three large pieces, and sort creatures into their habitat groups. There are five worlds to explore: Ocean, Forest, Desert, Savanna, and Jungle. See the visual activity tour with real app screens and all five worlds.

For a simple offline companion, print the animal-habitat sorting activity with ten cards and five world mats.

Does a child need to read or know English?

No. The puzzles use large creatures, clear shapes, and visual cues. Reading is not needed to play.

What happens if my child gets stuck or places a piece incorrectly?

A missed piece drifts back gently, without a buzzer, red X, or score penalty. After a quiet pause, a gentle cue can show the next move. Luna, the little light, also points toward where to play next. There are no timers or scores.

How does progress work?

As your child completes an animal’s puzzle, that animal comes to live in its world. Returning to play independently can bring its baby into the scene too. The worlds gradually fill with life; progress is saved on your device, with no account or online copy.

Grown-up controls and privacy

Do we need an account, and does the app collect play data?

No account or sign-in is needed. Your child’s play record stays on your device and is not sent to us. The app has no analytics or advertising tracking. Read the Puzzles Privacy Policy for details about on-device progress and optional support emails.

Can I mute sound or reset progress?

Yes. Press and hold the “Hold 2s for grown-ups” control for about two seconds. The grown-ups area has a sound toggle and Reset progress, which starts the worlds fresh. Because progress is kept only on the device, we cannot restore it after a reset or uninstall.

How can I get help?

Visit Puzzles support or email support@theirfirstwords.org. Tell us which device you use and what happened, without including your child’s personal information.
