How the Russian actually reads.

Cyrillic, and only Cyrillic. There is no transliteration anywhere in the app — not under the word, not as a toggle. The card shows the writing system your child will actually meet; until you can read it, the speaker button is your transliteration, and it is more accurate than any spelling in Latin letters.
The words a Russian toddler actually hears. Dog is собачка, bird is птичка, fish is рыбка, bunny is зайчик, cat is киса, duck is уточка, bear is мишка. Russian speaks to small children in these affectionate forms, so that is the form on the card — the dictionary word comes later, from school.
Ты, the way a family talks. 44 phrases address the child as ты; one uses вы. The phrases are the sentences a parent and child actually exchange — Вот ты где!, Я тебя люблю — not the forms a textbook opens with.
Verbs in the form you will hear a hundred ways. 103 of the 128 action cards are infinitives — прыгать, обнимать, чистить зубы. It is the one shape of the verb that stays fixed while everything around it conjugates, so it is the one worth having in your head.
Мама, папа, бабушка, дедушка. The people cards use the names a child says. The doctor on the card is доктор, the word a child uses, rather than врач.
Two Russian voices, on every card. Every word and every phrase is spoken twice — in a woman’s native Russian voice and in a man’s — and both live in the app at no extra cost. A child who has only heard люблю in one voice has heard one shape of it.

Why most families open these cards

For бабушка и дедушка.

For many families this is the whole motive, so it is worth saying plainly: you want your child to be able to talk to бабушка and дедушка, wherever they are.

Video calls are hard on a toddler — a face, a lag, questions in a language they hear once a week, and a small person who goes quiet and wanders off. What changes that is not fluency. It is having three or four things your child can produce on cue — Привет, бабушка!, Я тебя люблю, Спокойной ночи — so the call has somewhere to start. Practise them at bedtime in the week; use them on Sunday.

It works the same for families driving to Russian school on Saturday mornings. The classroom is two hours a week; the words have to live somewhere in between, and a minute at breakfast with four cards is not homework. With up to four child profiles, an older sibling and a baby keep their own lists.

Do I need to read Cyrillic to use the Russian cards?

No. Every Russian card carries a speaker button with a woman’s voice and a man’s, both native. Tap it, listen, say it back. The English is on the card too — and after a few weeks of the same twenty cards, most parents start recognising the letters without meaning to.

Is Russian included in the free version?

We speak Russian and English at home. Can the app do both?

Yes. Language is set per child profile, and you can switch it from the language pill without leaving the card, so the same picture can be молоко and then milk. You can keep up to four child profiles, each with its own language and its own progress.
